A look into creating smart goals, and the use of natural preservatives.

At Evolve, we believe in planning, but even more in EXECUTION. As consultants, we provide structure, strategy, and expertise, but as seasoned professionals, we know that action is what drives results.

Let’s make this year one of PROGRESS, not just planning. 🚀

Tip of the Month!

Many of you have already mapped out your plans for 2025 such as detailed budgets, Excel spreadsheets, and ambitious targets for the year ahead. However, we know that goals often come from meetings with multiple inputs, and sometimes they aren’t very SMART, lacking the clarity needed for real success.

Consider broad goals like:

🚫 "Improve product cost"

🚫 "Be more profitable"

🚫 "Increase sales"

These are vague, open-ended, and often UNREALISTIC. As you review your plans and reflect on the first two months of the year, take time to refine your goals using the SMART framework:

✅ SPECIFIC:

Clearly define what you want to achieve. Does the goal provide enough detail to avoid ambiguity?

✅ MEASURABLE:

Ensure progress can be tracked. Are there clear metrics to gauge success?

✅ ATTAINABLE:

Set realistic and achievable goals. Can this goal be accomplished with the time and resources available?

✅ RELEVANT:

Align goals with broader objectives. Does this goal directly support your business or project priorities?

✅ TIME-BOUND:

Set deadlines for achievement. Does the goal include a clear timeline?

🔹 Examples of a SMART Goal:

"Reduce product COGS by 10% in the next six months through negotiations with all material suppliers to support the company’s objective of increasing profitability."

“Reduce waste in the production process by 10% over the next six months by conducting a manufacturing audit, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing lean manufacturing principles.”

The Shift to Natural Preservatives

As consumers become more health-conscious, the demand for cleaner, more natural ingredients continues to rise. In response, natural preservatives are emerging as viable alternatives to synthetic chemicals, helping extend shelf life while maintaining product quality and safety.

✅ Rosemary extract acts as a natural antioxidant, preventing oxidation in oils and snack products.

✅ Vinegar and citrus lower pH and inhibit microbial growth in beverages, dressings and sauces.

✅ Rowanberry extract serves as natural source of sorbic acid and an effective mold inhibitor in a variety of categories.

Many of these natural preservatives can be labeled aligning with clean-label strategies. However, transitioning to natural preservatives isn’t as simple as updating the ingredient list, it requires careful reformulation and testing to balance taste, safety, functionality, and shelf life.

🔍 Is your company considering the switch? Don't navigate reformulation alone! Our expert team can guide you through the transition while ensuring your product maintains its quality and consumer appeal.
